AI this week: Grok 4.6 surges, Claude adds watermarks, Qwen opens a giant
SpaceXAI’s Grok 4.6 built with Cursor, invisible watermarks on everything Claude makes, and Alibaba’s 2.4-trillion-parameter open model.
August 21, 2026 · By Bohol AI
A once mid-tier lab joined the leaders, Anthropic started marking what Claude creates, and open models kept getting bigger.
Grok 4.6
SpaceXAI released Grok 4.6, developed with the coding company Cursor and aimed at long-running agent work. It ranks among the most capable models while keeping prices relatively low, and is available through the API, in Grok Build and in Cursor, with the consumer Grok apps to follow.
Claude’s invisible watermarks
Anthropic introduced hidden, machine-readable marks showing that text and images were generated by Claude. They apply worldwide to all Claude models launched after August 2, 2026. Text gets a coded digital watermark and images get a metadata credential. Anthropic said the change is needed to comply with the European Union’s AI Act.
Why it matters: it will get easier for schools, employers and platforms to check whether content came from an AI model.
Qwen3.8-Max
Alibaba unveiled Qwen3.8-Max, a 2.4-trillion-parameter model built for long coding and knowledge-work tasks, on August 2, then released its weights along with a smaller sibling. It is Alibaba’s answer to Moonshot’s Kimi K3.
Research: speech recognition that corrects itself
Researchers from several Chinese universities and Xiaoice paired a speech-recognition engine with a language model that finds and fixes transcription errors, allowing interactive corrections instead of a single pass.
What it means for Bohol
- Students and teachers: AI-written work is becoming traceable. Use AI to learn and draft, and be open about it.
- Self-correcting transcription is worth watching for local accents, place names and mixed Bisaya-English speech, where today’s tools often stumble.
